Character animation is a specialized area of the animation process concerning the animation of one or more characters featured in an animated work. It is usually as one aspect of a larger production and often made to complement voice acting. Character animation is artistically unique from other animation in that it involves the creation of apparent thought and emotion in addition to physical action. Historically, Winsor McCay's Gertie the Dinosaur (1914) is often considered the very first example of true character animation. Otto Messmer imbued his Felix the Cat with an instantly recognizable personality during the 1920s. The following decade, Walt Disney made character animation a particular focus of his animation studio, best showcased in productions such as Three Little Pigs, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Dumbo. Disney animation artists such as Bill Tytla, Ub Iwerks, Grim Natwick, Fred Moore, Ward Kimball, Les Clark, John Sibley, Marc Davis, Wolfgang Reitherman, Hal King, Hamilton Luske, Norm Ferguson, Eric Larson, Johnny Lounsbery, Milt Kahl, Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston all became masters of the technique.

Dimensions is in fact the first novel that I wrote, in the early 1990s. I had the manuscript printed out but never got to the stage of publishing it. I came across the manuscript again recently and I have decided that it deserves to be published, along with my other novels. So here it is, over 20 years after I wrote it: Adam Wilcocks and his family get caught up in an explosion in the in local shopping center. The emotions that he goes through when he learns of the outcome are quite powerful. Also on the scene is John who has just parked up his vehicle when the explosion occurs. He belongs to a small special unit that operates out of London. John is in the middle of his annual vacation but that has to be cut short and he is asked to return to London. Following a meeting of their team, John is contacted by Liam who asks to meet him up. His group wants to deny any responsibility for the explosion. Two members of John's unit are assassinated shortly after and the unit separates to work on their own. William has been employed as a consultant for over four years by his company. He is about to be made redundant and so has time on his hands while he thinks about looking for another job. He has been experiencing some strange occurrences with some people he sees having a colored dot that only he can see, by their heads. Over the days he thinks he discovers what the dots mean and decides to do something about it, his own little crusade. Dimensions is a passionate, emotional, fast moving action thriller. Nobody really understands what is going on and when they think they get a handle on it, they find they are wrong. The story moves in a full circle and the characters come together to conclude in an unexpected ending. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Milt Bighley. Free Air (Serapis Classics)

From a critical perspective, Free Air is consistent with Sinclair Lewis's lean towards egalitarian politics, which he displays in his other works (most notably in It Can't Happen Here). Examples of his politics in Free Air are found in Lewis's emphasis on the heroic role played by the book's protagonist, Milt Dagget, a working class everyman type. Conversely, Lewis presents nearly every upper-class character in Claire Boltwood's world (including her railroad-mogul father) as being snobby elitists. The story also champions the democratic nature of the automobile versus the more aristocratic railroad travel. Lewis's showing favoritism towards the freedom which automobiles would eventually accord the working and middle classes bolsters the egalitarian, democratic aesthetic. Free Air is one of the first novels about the road trip, a subject around which the Beats (most notably Jack Kerouac) would build a cult following in the mid-20th century.
